SEO What Is It?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the process of making improvements both on and off your website in order to gain more exposure for search engine results. This will increase your website traffic and lead visitors to find the information they are truly searching for. In order to have a better understanding of how search engines work, let’s take a few moments to step back and see how search engines work.

At the heart of any Google or Bing search is the search engine process when a keyword or phrase is typed in. The search engine has to take the searched word and match it against all the information on the internet and bring website results back it feels are both relative and have some strong authoritative content.

First let’s examine relevance, when a user searches for something like North Carolina Hotels, search engines will want to show all the topics associated with the keyword you typed. Search engines will analyze all the websites it has ever visited and pick out the ones they feel are most relevant to the word North Carolina Hotels. They determine relevance by a lot of different factors such as content and how well it is written as well as how many other authoritative websites are linking to your site.

All this information is stuffed into a very complex and ever changing algorithm of each search engine. In a matter of seconds the search engines discern the most relative content to your search and rank the pages appearance accordingly. It’s important to understand that a search for North Carolina Ski Resorts will bring back a different result than a search for North Carolina Resorts. Search engines understand and differentiate the semantic connections between keywords and content.

Let’s look at another example if a person searches for baby carriers the search engines know that every website associated with baby carriers are relevant. However, it also understands a search for child restraint carriers are also relevant and a search for baby toys is also relevant maybe not as relevant as baby carriers but none the less it has relevance.

Now let’s discuss authority. In the entire internet world, there is a lot of information, some of it you never want to see because the sites authority is not worthy of viewing. Authority can be built based on other websites being linked to yours. However, you want trusted sites linked not just any site. So in this case some sites are more trusted than others. It could be because of reputation, content, business practices, name brand recognition, etc. Trusted links build authority with your website and help SEO.

Call NC Web Group today and let’s talk about getting your SEO in order.

If you’re not careful your website home page can become cluttered. This leads to confusion to your visitors. Some companies feel the home page should illustrate every aspect the company has to offer. However, this concept is the exact opposite of what should take place. Your home page should be simple and lead visitors to research and explore other pages on your site. As a general rule of thumb, your website should pass “The 5 second test”. Simply stated a visitor coming to your site should be able to understand exactly what your site is about within 5 seconds. This may not seem like a very long time however, it’s typically the amount of time it takes a person to get the first impression and gives them motivation to continue reading further.

Let’s take a minute to answer a couple important questions. When you visit your website can you answer 4 basic questions?

What topic is your website about?

What are the sub-topics of the home page?

What is the “key call to action”?

Do you get enough information to make you click another page?

These are all questions that each home page must address. To test your website, recruit a few friends and let them visit your site. Tell them to time themselves upon opening the site to 5 seconds. If they can answer the above questions in a definite manner then it’s a positive sign. There are also automated ways to test your site, the first site is www.fivesecondtest.com the other is www.clueapp.com both will provide feedback for your 5 second test.

You know the impression you want to convey to your visitors, these tests can provide you with information that will quantify if that message is being delivered. Let NC Web Group provide your company with a free website analysis and get you the traffic you need to be successful. Contact us today at www.ncwebgroup.com

Small Business Saturday is almost here, This year it’s on November 24, 2012. This year marks the 3rd year of the celebration for small businesses which was founded by American Express. Small Business Saturday encourages shopping at local, small businesses on the day after Black Friday. This year almost half of small businesses surveyed are implementing some type of marketing strategies aimed at Small Business Saturday.

Some 30% of local merchants now say it is their biggest shopping day of the year. With that much at stake it makes sense to be ready doing the marketing before the big day. Most will offer impressive discounts or coupons to entice customers to shop with them. Something simple as free gift wrapping and free gift promotions are also popular with customers. Of the merchants surveyed, 8 out of 10 expect to have increased sales over last year.

So how are the merchants going to get their message out? Surveys show almost everyone will use some type of social media campaigns, 96 percent will use Facebook, 33 percent will use Twitter, 15 percent will use Google +, and 15 percent will use Pinterest.

The question is do you have your campaigns ready? Even though Small Business Saturday is only a week away, you still have time to get your message to your customers. If you need some great ideas, or perhaps you don’t have any of these social platforms set up for your business, it’s not too late. Give NC Web Group a call and let’s discuss how we can get your business ready for the biggest shopping day of the year for some local merchants.

When your company or business has a website, it stands out period. As a full service web design and marketing firm, it is my position to explain to businesses why they will benefit from either having a new website or updating a current website. Along with creating a website one should introduce a marketing campaign that will compliment your website and create a (ROI) return on investment that will benefit you exponentially.

A business can spend thousands of dollars on a website only to have it vanish in the quicksand of the internet. It is incumbent for all websites to have a marketing campaign attached to them. Without a marketing campaign and monthly website content updates your website will sink to the bottom and so will your money.

This scenario is especially true if you are just beginning your business and your trying to develop your brand and reputation in the community. Ask yourself one question? How will potential clients find out about my company. My answer is simple, the internet. There is no other form of advertising and marketing on the face of the earth that can deliver your message to an exponential number of prospective clients for your money.

Using social media, SEO practices, PPC, will launch your new or existing company in the right direction. Vertical Marketing in the truest since. So take the time to give us NC Web Group a call and let us start a campaign for you.
